About Get Up 2 Summit!
Hi, I'm Jo - thank you for visiting my website. I have had a love for the outdoors for the past 20 years, an interest which I took more seriously a few years ago in a bid to get fitter and slimmer. Like most people, I have had periods where the stresses of life have been overwhelming, the mountains providing a sanctuary and distraction. Five years ago, I was overweight, ate and drank what I shouldn't, didn't know what to do with a map or compass, had never camped nor thought that I would feel at ease in the middle of nowhere without a phone signal! I heard about the 'Wainwrights' in the Lake District so I set myself the challenge of summiting them all! It turns out that this was one of the best decisions I have ever made, achieving this in less than a year. I now generally spend most weekends and holidays in the mountains, whether in the Lakes, Scotland, Snowdonia or abroad. It is difficult to do justice to the benefits that getting outdoors has on my wellbeing. Being based on the Wirral has the advantage of being within easy access of North Wales, the Peak & Lake District, increasing my flexibility and maximising the experiences on offer through Get Up 2 Summit.
Qualifying as a Mountain Leader in 2019, I can honestly say that I am in the best physical and mental shape of my life. I have lost weight, increased in confidence, grown a new circle of friends (including cafe workers, B&B owners and other outdoorsy folk) along with an abundance of new skills. My outdoor qualifications, experience and skills have now enabled me to work in the outdoor industry although I still work as a Registered Nurse, qualified since 1997. I also have a teaching qualification, having worked as a Nurse Educator in the higher education sector from 2003-2009, these skills enabling me to teach navigation skills in a methodical and systematic way according to the individual's learning style.
If you want to reap the rewards of the outdoors, whether it the lowlands or on the fells, then get in touch. Whatever your ability, there is something for everyone so get in touch and let us take you on a memorable adventure. If you want to gain more independence in the mountains, let us help you to develop those skills. Events will run with a maximum of 8 participants per leader. There are various events listed on the website but I am also available for private hire. If you are a group with a specific activity in mind which is not listed as an option on the website, this will be accommodated where possible. Most events are scheduled to take place at weekends but weekday events can be arranged if the group is of a sufficient size.
Whatever your requirements, it would be fantastic to hear from you!
